Caring For Your Textiles
Care Guide
Hand block printed textiles are crafted with love and tradition. With proper care, your Mishkaya pieces will become softer, more comfortable, and even more beautiful with age.
💧
Washing
- Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle, or hand wash for best results.
- Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
- Wash separately for the first 2-3 washes — slight color bleeding is natural for hand block printed textiles and will settle.
- Turn inside out before washing to protect the printed surface.
- Do not soak for extended periods.
☀️
Drying
- Line dry in shade. Avoid direct sunlight as it may cause gradual fading of natural dyes.
- Do not tumble dry — the high heat can shrink the cotton fibers and damage the print.
- Shake out gently before hanging to minimize wrinkles.
- Remove from the line while still slightly damp for easier ironing.
🔥
Ironing
- Iron on medium heat (cotton setting) while the fabric is still slightly damp.
- Iron on the reverse side to preserve the vibrancy of the block print.
- Use steam for stubborn wrinkles.
- Avoid ironing directly on printed areas with high heat.
📦
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Fold neatly and place in a cotton or muslin bag — avoid plastic bags as they trap moisture.
- Add a sachet of dried lavender or neem leaves to naturally repel insects.
- Refold periodically to prevent permanent crease lines.
A Note on Natural Dyes
Our hand block printed textiles use a blend of natural and AZO-free reactive dyes. Over time, with washing and use, the colors will develop a beautiful, lived-in patina — much like fine leather or vintage textiles. This subtle evolution is one of the most cherished qualities of authentic artisanal textiles. It is a feature, not a flaw.
